Meet Our Staff

Dr. Steven Saro, D.C.

Dr. Steven Saro has been practicing in Dracut since 1990 when he founded the Saro Chiropractic Health Center. Dr. Saro graduated from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry. In 1988, he obtained his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Palmer College of Chiropractic is the oldest of the chiropractic colleges and is internationally recognized as the preeminent institution in chiropractic education.

Dr. Saro has received specialized post-graduate training in sports medicine, diagnostic radiology, spinal rehabilitation and biomechanics, motor vehicle trauma management, and impairment disability evaluation. He is certified in the Cox Distraction/Decompression Technique that specifically treats disc herniation/degeneration and spinal stenosis in the cervical and lumbar spine. Dr. Saro also uses Diversified, Gonstead, Activator, Thompson, Extremity, and Myofascial Release techniques in the office. In addition, Dr. Saro is a guest lecturer on complimentary and alternative medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine.

As a member of the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society (MCS), Dr. Saro has served on the Board of Directors and is the MCS’s Legislative Chairman, a position he has held since 1994. Dr. Saro has chaired the MCS’s Committee on National Health Care Reform, Medicare Committee, and Medical/Chiropractic Research Committee. He is also a Contributing Editor of the quarterly Practice Research Digest. In 1994 and 1998, Dr. Saro was the recipient of the MCS’s Extraordinary Service Award. In the fall of 2006, Dr. Saro was name the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society Chiropractor of the Year. This peer-voted upon award is given to the Massachusetts chiropractor that makes the greatest contribution to the chiropractic profession. Dr. Saro was also elected Vice President of the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society.

Dr. Saro is married and has three children ages 14, 12, and 2. He currently coaches youth hockey and little league baseball in his hometown of Westford, Massachusetts. He is an active member of his church, St. Catherine’s of Alexandria. Among his many charitable works include Food for the Poor (Catholic charities), MA/COM Food Share (Food Pantry, Lowell), and the Dracut Scholarship Foundation. The Dracut Scholarship Foundation is awarded each year to a Dracut High School graduate entering a health care profession.

Dr. David J. Fieldgate, D.C.

Dr. Fieldgate is a 1998 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic (Davenport, Iowa). He also holds a B.A. degree from the College of Wooster (Wooster, Ohio: 1972) and a M.S. degree from C.W. Post College (Brookville, NY: 1974).

Before becoming a chiropractor, Dr. Fieldgate spent almost 15 years working for Fisons—an English pharmaceutical company dealing in the allergy/asthma business. With Fisons he worked in Medical Departments in the USA and England. Amongst a wide range of responsibilities, he was involved in managing clinical asthma studies throughout the USA and had the responsibility of establishing international Good Clinical Practice procedures. When he left Fisons to attend Palmer College, he had the position of Associate Director Standards and Compliance.

Dr. Fieldgate is Advanced Proficiency Rated in the Activator Methods adjusting technique. He is an active member of the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society and the American Chiropractic Association. Additionally, he is currently Secretary of the Palmer College of Chiropractic International Alumni Association and is a member of the Alumni Board of the College of Wooster. In his church, he has been Chairman of the Trustees and the Music Committee and a member of the Church Council.

Dr. Fieldgate has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean, and has traveled to China and Australia. He is a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and sings in the Holiday Pops Concerts each December with the Boston Pops Orchestra at Symphony Hall in Boston. Besides singing with the TFC he sings in his church choir and in other local choruses. Along with travel and singing, Dr. Fieldgate also enjoys photography and all sports. While at Wooster and for several years after graduation, he played lacrosse. He is an Eagle Scout and a member of the National Eagle Scout Association.

Johanna Cassidy, Massage Therapist

Johanna Cassidy, a Registered Nurse since 1993, is also a 1997 graduate of New England Academy of Therapeutic Sciences, Nashua, New Hampshire. She uses a combination of deep tissue, neuromuscular, swedish, trigger point release, and myofascial release massage techniques catered to the patient's needs.

Johana is Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, a level 2 certified Reiki practitioner, and a member of the American Medical Massage Therapy Association. She has been practicing massage therapy for the past two years at the Saro Chiropractic Health Center.

Wei/Vivian Zhang, MS, Lic. Ac., Certified Chinese Herbalist

Wei/Vivan Zhng, Licensed Acupuncturist and Certified Chiese Herbalist, is a well-known specialist in treating illness and disorders with Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) and acupuncture. Vivien is currently a medical staff member of Mass General Hospital and Emerson Hospital. She has been working as a professor and the Chinese Herbal Pharmacy manager at the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA) since 1999. She has participated in several clinical research programs such as "Acupuncture Treatment for Menopausal Hot Flashes" and "Stop Hypertension with Acupuncture" at various US hopitals and schools. Before joining NESA, she served as Senior Physician of Guan An Men Hospital (GAMH) Affiliated to China Academy of TCM in Beijing, where she treated patients with combined Chinese medicine and western medical treatments. Vivien Zhang is also an advocate of traditional Chinese nutrition. The importance of Chinese nutrition is strongly emphasized in her practice and teaching. She led the Chinese Herbal garden project to increate public and professional awareness of Chinese Herbal medicine.

Vivien received her medical degree from Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in 1994, and her Master's degree in Nutrition and Health Promotion from Simmons College.
