Chiropractic Education

Dr. Steven Saro has been practicing in Dracut since 1990 when he founded the Saro Chiropractic Health Center. Dr. Saro graduated from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry. In 1988, he obtained his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Palmer College of Chiropractic is the oldest of the chiropractic colleges and is internationally recognized as the preeminent institution in chiropractic education.

Dr. Saro has received specialized post-graduate training in sports medicine, diagnostic radiology, spinal rehabilitation and bio-mechanics, motor vehicle trauma management, and impairment disability evaluation. He is certified in the Cox Distraction/Decompression Technique that specifically treats disc herniation/degeneration and spinal stenosis in the cervical and lumbar spine. Dr. Saro also uses Diversified, Gonstead, Activator, Thompson, Extremity, and Myofascial Release techniques in the office. In addition, Dr. Saro is a guest lecturer on complimentary and alternative medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine.

Professional Contributions

As a member of the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society (MCS), Dr. Saro has served on the Board of Directors and is the MCS’s President, a position he has held since 2013. Dr. Saro has chaired the MCS’s Committee on National Health Care Reform, Medicare Committee, and Medical/Chiropractic Research Committee. He is also a Contributing Editor of the quarterly Practice Research Digest. In 1994 and 1998, Dr. Saro was the recipient of the MCS’s Extraordinary Service Award. In the fall of 2006,  2008 and then again in 2012, Dr. Saro was name the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society Chiropractor of the Year. This award is given to the doctor who makes the greatest contribution to the advancement of the chiropractic profession in Massachusetts. Saro is credited for his leadership in passing legislation that provides coverage of chiropractic services in the state Mass Health System. Mass Health provides state funded medical care to indigent and disabled citizens in Massachusetts. Saro was also involved in the passage of this years landmark (healthcare for all) legislation, which provides some level of healthcare coverage for all Massachusetts residents. Dr. Saro is actively involved in the treatment and management of athletes. He treats professional athletes and is the team chiropractic physician for the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Family

Dr. Saro is married and has three children. He coaches youth hockey and little league baseball in his hometown of Westford, Massachusetts. He is an active member of his church, St. Catherine’s of Alexandria. Among his many charitable works include Food for the Poor (Catholic charities), MA/COM Food Share (Food Pantry, Lowell), and the Dracut Scholarship Foundation. He also serves on the Board of Corporators for the Lowell Five and Savings Bank, is a benefactor to the Westford Charitable Foundation and past president of the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. Saro enjoys competing in the sport of triathlon.

Chiropractic Education

Dr. Fieldgate is a 1998 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic (Davenport, Iowa). He also holds a B.A. degree from the College of Wooster (Wooster, Ohio: 1972) and a M.S. degree from C.W. Post College (Brookville, NY: 1974).

Training

Before becoming a chiropractor, Dr. Fieldgate spent almost 15 years working for Fisons—an English pharmaceutical company dealing in the allergy/asthma business. With Fisons he worked in Medical Departments in the USA and England. Amongst a wide range of responsibilities, he was involved in managing clinical asthma studies throughout the USA and had the responsibility of establishing international Good Clinical Practice procedures. When he left Fisons to attend Palmer Chiropractic College, he had the position of Associate Director Standards and Compliance.

Professional Contributions

Dr. Fieldgate is Advanced Proficiency Rated in the Activator Methods adjusting technique. He is an active member of the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society and the American Chiropractic Association. Additionally, he is currently Secretary of the Palmer College of Chiropractic International Alumni Association and is a member of the Alumni Board of the College of Wooster. In his church, he has been Chairman of the Trustees and the Music Committee and a member of the Church Council.

Hobbies

Dr. Fieldgate has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean, and has traveled to China and Australia. He is a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and sings in the Holiday Pops Concerts each December with the Boston Pops Orchestra at Symphony Hall in Boston. Besides singing with the TFC he sings in his church choir and in other local choruses. Along with travel and singing, Dr. Fieldgate also enjoys photography and all sports. While at Wooster and for several years after graduation, he played lacrosse. He is an Eagle Scout and a member of the National Eagle Scout Association.

Chiropractic Education

In 2013, Dr. Christopher Auger graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA where he received his Doctor of chiropractic degree. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and received awards for academic excellence, an anatomy certificate of merit, and a sports rehab certificate of achievement. In 2009, Dr. Auger graduated from Clark University with a B.S. in Biology and a Chemistry minor.

Dr. Auger received advanced training in the Cox flexion distraction technique, Activator, Soft tissue techniques (Graston and myofascial release), and sport injury and rehabilition. During his time at Palmer, Dr. Auger was a teaching assistant for the anatomy and life sciences department for 2 years. He was also selected to be a student intern in the sports injury and rehab department. In addition, Dr. Auger completed a clinic abroad program in India where he provided comprehensive chiropractic care to those in need. Dr. Auger also uses Diversified, Gonstead, Thompson, and Extremity techniques in the office.

During his time at Clark University, Dr. Auger became a licensed EMT-Basic and volunteered for 2 years as a member of the Clark EMS team. This organization served as a first responder unit for the campus in all emergency medical situations. Additionally, Dr. Auger worked as an assistant to the athletic trainers at Clark for 2 years and was a 3-year member of the Clark swimming and diving team.

Dr. Auger is currently a member of the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society and the American Chiropractic Association. He is also actively involved in alumni events at Clark University.

Hobbies

In his leisure, Dr. Auger enjoys fishing, playing basketball, exercising, and spending time with family and friends. He is also an avid fan of New England sports. Dr. Auger is very excited to join the team at Saro Chiropractic Health Center and looks forward to working with you!

Education

Johanna Cassidy, a Registered Nurse since 1993 and graduate of Middlesex Community College in Lowell, Massachusetts. She worked in Nursing Management for geriatrics and several years for the Greater Lowell Visiting Nurse Association. Johanna is also a 1997 graduate of New England Academy of Therapeutic Sciences in Nashua, New Hampshire. She uses a combination of deep tissue, neuromuscular, swedish, trigger point release, and myofascial release massage techniques catering to the patients needs. Johanna specializes in acute and chronic pain of the spine, shoulders, and neck; and also delivers techniques for sports and athletic injuries and health maintenance.

Training

Johanna is Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, a level 2 certified Reiki Practitioner, and a member of the American Medical Massage Therapy Association. She has been practicing massage therapy  at Saro Chiropractic Health Center since 2004.
